CASE STUDIES

Here you can get some in-depth examples of the work we do. We’ll go over the scope of our work with different partners and share hard data with you to show what worked. These case studies are a treasure trove of information, and all we ask for in return is your email so we can continue to share content like this with you in the future.

charles koch foundation

SchermCo partnered with the Charles Koch Foundation to design and facilitate the Pathways Lab Convening, bringing together employers, workforce organizations, training providers, philanthropic partners, and community leaders to strengthen skilled trades pathways across the Charlotte region. Through strategic facilitation and ecosystem-building, our team helped stakeholders identify opportunities to better align workforce systems, increase employer engagement, and expand access to career opportunities. The convening created a foundation for ongoing collaboration focused on connecting more residents to high-quality careers while helping employers meet growing workforce demand.

RENEW

Because SchermCo tends to work in the education sector through the family empowerment and social impact work, many folks don’t realize those same skills are also used to foster workforce development programming for local governments.

The Renewable Energy and Efficiency Workforce (RENEW) Training Program in Charlotte is a recent example of this. A partnership between the City of Charlotte, Goodwill, the Urban League of the Carolinas and SchermCo, RENEW had a goal of placing 60 Charlotte residents into entry-level HVAC and related technical positions.

We’ve had the honor of working with Brenda Alston-Hasan for several years now, first in her position with Ashley Park PreK-8 School, and currently in her position as the assistant principal at Bruns Avenue Elementary in Charlotte, NC.

Bruns Elementary is a part of our family empowerment initiative, where we provide support to schools across the nation by helping them leverage data to determine family needs and co-create events and solutions in order to meet those needs, all while increasing levels of engagement and empowerment. Our team was doing this type of work at Ashley Park in Charlotte while Brenda worked there, and she saw the results firsthand.

Union county

In February 2022, SchermCo began a transformational journey with Union County Public Schools (UCPS) to audit, design, and implement a comprehensive family engagement strategy. Over the course of three years, this collaboration has reshaped how the district connects with families, built new leadership capacity, and created sustainable systems that center families as critical stakeholders in student success.

Bankwork$

In 2023, SchermCo partnered with Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont to support the launch of the BankWork$ initiative in Charlotte—a nationally recognized workforce development program designed to prepare individuals for careers in the banking and financial services industry. This partnership focused on strategic planning, program management, and implementation to ensure a successful launch of the first cohort.

Flight Forward

The Flight Forward Program shows how SchermCo’s strengths in strategy, partnership development, and day-to-day implementation translate directly into workforce development outcomes. Developed with the Sullenberger Aviation Museum, the program connected students from West Charlotte High School, particularly those from historically under-resourced backgrounds, to careers in aviation and related industries through a year-long exposure and readiness experience.
