My name is Antwan Chambers and I am from Atlanta, GA. I attended k-12 in Dekalb County Schools throughout metro Atlanta before becoming a Posse Scholar at The College of Wooster in northeast Ohio. Between my time in high school and throughout college, I honed in on my interest in teaching and working in education through internships and other experiential opportunities. Upon graduating I became a Teach For America corps member in Brooklyn, NY where I taught middle school social studies while attending Relay Graduate School of Education. As a middle school teacher, I began to recognize the importance of leveraging good relationships with families and community stakeholders as a means of teaching with a whole-child approach. After spending time teaching history at the high school level, I transitioned to social work. I completed my master’s of social work at Washington University in St. Louis. With my social work training coupled with my time in the classroom, I have come to understand the influence that local policy and advocacy have on the quality of education and schooling.

Every community is unique and this means that the diversity of people living there and the issues they face are equally as unique, specifically as it relates to education and the schools there. I am excited to continue my work in facilitating spaces for quality education with SchermCo because they understand the need for schools and organizations to tailor their future implementation plans to the unique aspects of the communities they serve. SchermCo is leveraging several different efforts to support the planning and work of schools and education organizations and that is the work I have always wanted to do. I hope to deepen my understanding of organizational development during my time with the firm. I am excited to contribute my understanding of social-emotional learning, community outreach and engagement, and equity, diversity, and inclusion to the work that is already happening here at SchermCo. I look forward to serving and learning alongside a wonderful team and in communities around the country.
